Keta: Salakope residents blocked road, demand construction of sea defense wall

Residents of Salakope in the Ketu South municipality of the Volta region has blocked the road leading to towns such as Keta, Adina, Blekusu, Akame and surrounding villages over refusal of authorities to find solution to the tidal waves.

According to the residents, if nothing is done immediately the sea will sweep away their entire village.

The youth have blocked the road in the early hours of Wednesday March 31 at about 3am with stones, logs, metals amidst burning of tyres.

There were no vehicukar and human movement to either sides of the communities.

The angry youth are demanding construction of sea defence to stop the tidal wave from destroying their properties.

The have given government three days ultimatum to respond to their calls during meeting with the Municipal Chief Executive, Mr Eliot Agbenorwu.

Mr Agbotey Clemence, the Assembly member for Blekusu electoral area in an interview with ModernGhana News said the people of Salakope have appealed and pleaded with government on several for the construction of sea defense wall but to no avail.

According to him, several houses have sunked in the tidal waves causing lost of properties and many displaced.

Mr Eliot Agbenorwu, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Ketu South Municipality said efforts will be made to address the problem.
