Zimbabwe's Vice President resigns over alleged sexual misconduct

Zimbabwe's Vice President Kembo Mohadi has resigned on Monday, March 1 2021 over reports of sexual misconduct against him.

The 70-year-old said in a letter shared on the official Twitter page of the country's information ministry, that he is stepping down “not as a matter of cowardice but as a sign of demonstrating great respect to the office of the President”.

He added, “I have been going through a soul-searching pilgrimage and realised that I need the space to deal with my problem outside the governance chair,”

Mohadi has been accused that he had engaged himself in extramarital affairs including married women and one of his subordinates.

He has since denied the allegations saying "I'm a victim of information distortion, voice cloning and sponsored spooking and political sabotage".

The second deputy vice president says he will seek legal redress to the accusations.

He was appointed as a vice president by President Emmerson Mnangagwa in 2017.
