Ghanaian highlife and afrobeat singer Kuami Eugene has announced a temporary hiatus from social media following the passing of his 100-year-old grandmother.

The 'Angela' hitmaker took to Twitter on Saturday, May 27, to share the news of his grandmother's demise.

He stated that he will stay off social media for some time to mourn his beloved Obaapanin Grace Adomaa along with his family.

"This is the first time of losing someone really dear and close to my heart and it's not a pretty feeling at all. 100 yrs of Love and care for everyone. I'm staying off social media for some weeks to mourn Granny," Eugene tweeted.

The artist shared a video of himself and the grandmother in happier times, an indication of the close bond they shared.

Fans of the singer have sent their condolences to him, with many commending him for his decision to abstain from social media during this period.

Kuami Eugene, born Eugene Marfo, is one of Ghana's current most-celebrated music stars.

He won the ultimate award at the 21st edition of the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards - Artiste of the Year in 2019.

He is known for hit songs such as 'Angela', 'Wish Me Well', 'Obiaa', 'Confusion’, I’m Single, and Cryptocurrency.’

Despite his immense popularity and fame, Kuami Eugene has always credited his grandmother as instrumental in his upbringing and success.
