To me, it’s better to have children than get married — Brother Sammy

Astute Ghanaian gospel singer and worshiper, Samuel Opoku, known popularly as Brother Sammy or the "Nation’s worshipper" has stirred a new controversy among Ghanaians.

The gospel singer chose giving birth out of wedlock over marriage.

He intimated in an interview on Accra-based Joy Prime that having children without a wife or husband is good because partners can always leave and children will never leave their parents.

“As for me having children is better than getting married. Because if you are bedridden, your children will be beside you, and your wife or husband can decide to leave you for another,” he said.

According to him, he is not against marriage, but people should be careful when committing themselves to it because bad ones can kill.

“Marriage is cool. But the advice I will give everybody is to not rush into marriage. It’s a cage. Don’t rush into marriage because some people have married and are dying. Marriage has killed many people,” he said.

Brother Sammy emphasized, “Couples have turned into enemies. So I will tell someone that marriage is good but don’t rush. Children are a huge blessing because some are on a relentless pursuit to have some of their own. To me, it’s better to have children than get married.”
