2016 VGMA Trolls Got Me Depressed – Pappy Kojo

Ghanaian rap artiste, Pappy Kojo, also known as Fante Van Damme has revealed why he went off the music scene for a while.

According to the 'Awoa' hit maker, he decided to take a break from active music because he suffered depression.

“I relaxed because I was depressed. From the time I released 'Awoa' I got into depression. It was very bad like I wouldn't even go for shows,” he told Delay in an interview.

He however stated that it was not strange that he went into such a situation.

“I just realized it's something everyone goes through. People are just quiet about it but everyone goes through depression, trust me,” Pappy noted.

When Delay asked if it was the work that got him depressed he answered in the affirmative.

“It's just the work. I don't think it's healthy here. People expect you to be great and there aren't structures for you to be great. It's like telling me to be like Christiano Ronaldo and we don't even have stadiums. I don't have to stress myself, you know,” he said.

Explaining what may have contributed to the depression he went through he said the trolls he received after he lost out at the 2016 Vodafone Ghana Music Awards was also a factor.

“I got depressed after ‘Awoa’ and the VGMAs when they nominated me three times and I didn't win and the whole social media was on me because I didn't win award,” he revealed.

He was nominated in the Hip-life/Hip-hop Artiste of the Year, Best Collaboration of the Year, Hip Hop song of the Year and Best Rapper of the Year categories.

Pappy Kojo who recently featured on the popular 'Akwaaba' track by Guilty Beatz, is known for songs like 'Aye Late,' 'Makoma,' 'Nana Ama' and 'No Way.'
