Lord Kenya was the Shatta Wale of his time – Nana Quame

Henry De-Mensah has confidently declared that long-time musician-turned-evangelist Abraham Kojo Kenya, popularly known as Lord Kenya, was the Shatta Wale of his time.

The highlife singer, known in showbiz as Nana Quame, revealed that Lord Kenya was unstoppable during his heydays, similar to today’s dancehall artiste Charles Mensah Jnr., alias Shatta Wale.

Nana Quame had his turn as one of many artists who have been joining Daybreak Hitz host KMJ to partake in Hitz FM’s month-long celebration of hiplife.

Reminiscing his days as a fellow Slip Music label-mate, the highlife singer recounted the difficulty of attempting work without first going through Lord Kenya.

Nana Quame disclosed that the award-winning rapper-turned-evangelist carried so much weight that his colleagues made sure to consult him out of respect.

“When I was at Slip Music, the spokesman was Lord Kenya…If you really wanted to talk about something, you have [sic] to go through Lord Kenya.”

Otherwise, one would simply get stuck.
“You can’t go forward, you can’t come back,” he told KMJ. “No one can bypass.”

Even beyond Slip Music’s affairs, Nana Quame explained that the ‘Sika Baa’ hit-maker was inescapable.

“When you move out of the record label and you go out there, Kenya was all over the place,” he said.

‘Baby Chop Kiss’ artiste Shatta Wale is also considered to be an ever-present powerhouse in today’s music scene, releasing hit after hit.

Just as Lord Kenya was unstoppable during his time, some may view Shatta Wale as Ghanaian music’s modern-day force to be reckoned with.
