South African act, Black Coffee wins 2016 BET Best International Act

South African record producer and DJ, Black Coffee has won the Best International Act (Africa) at the 2016 Black Entertainment Television (BET) Awards.

He beat Ghana’s own MzVee, Wizkid (Nigeria), Yemi Alade (Nigeria), Diamond Platnumz (Tanzania), Serge Beynaud (Côte d’Ivoire­), AKA (South Africa) and Cassper Nyovest (South Africa) to win the award.

All the nominees, with the exception of highly tipped winner of the category Wizkid and Yemi Alade, were at the presentation ceremony.

Black Coffee thus becomes the first South African to win a BET Award which has over the years been won by Nigerian and Ghanaian acts.

Ghanaian dancehall artiste, Stonebwoy won the award last year.

Nigerian rapper Folarin Falana, popularly known as Falz, won the Viewers Choice Award for this year.
