MARIO & SHONTELLE ROCK ACCRA

American R&B superstar Mario and Barbadian songstress Shontelle treated music lovers to over an hour of back-to-back, excellent performances at 233 Connect's concert over the weekend.

A night that saw Accra troop to the Dome in their numbers, the two succeeded in wooing patrons with an impressive repertoire of songs, which were well received by the crowd.

Shontelle had been brought in as a replacement for J Holiday who was unable to make it due to his wife's delivery of a baby prior to his coming to Accra. With a combination of an excellent stagecraft and finesse, the T Shirt and Impossible singer made the most of the night and got the crowd singing along to her selections on the night.

Intermittently, she engaged the crowd on how excited she was to perform in Ghana for the first time and how she felt so much at home.

Main headline act Mario gave a good presentation and proved why it was worth bringing him down for the concert. The ladies were the direct beneficiaries of his stage manners as he easily connected to them, dishing out track after the other.

Nigerian act KAS and Ghana's Atumpan, CHASE, R2Bees, Tiffany, D Cryme and Raquel, also put up a decent show.

The Mario and Shontelle concert was 233 Connect's second in three months, having staged their first in April.

Given the relative success chalked so far by all two concerts, 233 Connect are hopeful that their third, which will take place in a couple of months, will live up to the billing.
