At a ceremony Friday to present the equipment to the MMDAs, President Mahama lauded Zoomlion for its leadership in sanitation management in the country and urged the assemblies to put the equipment to good use.

He said Zoomlion’s effort at managing the country’s sanitation was exemplary of government’s Public Private Partnership (PPP) initiative.

The equipment – valued at $50million according to Executive Chairman of Zoomlion and Jospong Group of Companies, Joseph Siaw Agyepong – is aimed at facilitating efforts to rid Accra and other parts of the country of filth.

Speaking at the ceremony held at the Trade Fair Centre in Accra, Mr Siaw Agyepong said the acquisition of the waste trucks and tricycles is in line with Zoomlion’s 2016 corporate theme of ‘Excellent Customer Service Delivery’.

“This theme was motivated by our awareness of our shortcomings and the need for us to ensure quality services to our customers,” he said, adding that 5,000 more tricycles would be presented later.

He revealed that over 10,000 direct jobs would be created as a direct consequence of the acquisition the sanitation equipment.

“This year, we pledge to provide all logistical needs for the National Sanitation Day – especially for communities needing sanitation services – as part of our customer service focus, and in fulfilment of our corporate social responsibility. We shall be supporting this national effort in collaboration with many celebrities in the country,” the Jospong and Zoomlion Executive Chair promised.

Zoomlion has spearheaded waste management in the country for close to a decade.

The company says its approach to sanitation is guided by 4R’s – Recovery, Reduce, Reuse and Recycle and hopes to add 300 mobile plastic recycling plant to its existing waste recycling plants nationwide in 2016.

The company has a waste bin manufacturing plant that produces 1000 waste bins a day and 30,000 waste bins a month through recycling, and at a minimal cost.

Zoomlion has set a target to manufacture and distribute one million recycled bins nationwide by the end of 2016.
