Madina, Oct 6, GNA - His Worship Delali Anku, the Madina Magistrate Court Judge, , on Tuesday swore into office nine Assemblymen and four Government Appointees, at a short ceremony performed at the premises of the La-Nkwantanang-Madina Municipal Assembly (LaNMMA), at Madina

Speaking at the function, Mr Sam George, a Presidential Staffer, congratulated the Assemblymen and the Government Appointees, and reminded them to take good decisions and live up to expectation in the course of executing their duties.

Mr. George reminded the newly-elected members that it was their duty to explain the policies of the Government to the grass-root people.

He urged them to get closer to one another to enhance democracy.

He warned them not to work for their parochial interests.

Mr George reminded them that they were now the legislators in their district, and appealed to them to be dedicated to their work and assist in the development of their areas

The Presidential Staffer disclosed that Parliament would soon approve a law to deal with all persons who flouted sanitation regulations.

He reminded them to enforce environmental cleanliness in the Assembly, and asked them to embark on the collection of property rates to raise the revenue of LaNMMA.

The Presidential Staff launched the Second LaNMMA Assembly to commence the work of the Assemblymen within the municipality.

Mr Franklin Anku, the Municipal Chief Executive, thanked the President for creating LaNMMA.

He said LaNMMA first started with 13 Assemblymen and a Member of Parliament, and initially faced stiff challenges, such as office and residential accommodation, inadequate staff, and lack of land space for development.

Mr. Anku noted that bringing development closer to the people was their number priority.

He said the Assembly had paid attention to education, health and a number of projects, and had executed these with the Assembly's development funds.

He acknowledged the immense support the Assembly had received from the Central Government, Local Government Service Secretariat, the Regional Co-orddinating Council, the Traditional Authorities, and the Security agencies, and prayed that the established relations would continue to grow from strength to strength.

The MCE added that he would continue to discharge his mandate dispassionately.

In attendance at the swearing-in-ceremony were Traditional Rulers, Market Women, the Member of Parliament (MP) of Madina Constituency, Alhaji Amadu Sorogoh, few members of the Madina Divisional Police Command, various Drivers Unions, Brass Bands and families members of the Assemblymen.
