Elections Error in registration slip: Trust the Commission on its mandate —EC assure Ghanaians
THU, 09 MAY 2024 LISTEN

The Electoral Commission (EC) of Ghana has raised concerns regarding errors in voter registration slips and has assured citizens that such errors do not impact their eligibility to vote.

In a statement released on May 8, 2024, and signed by the acting Director of Public Relations, Mr. Michael Boadu, the Electoral Commission clarified that while differences may appear on registration slips, these differences do not affect a voter's eligibility to cast their ballot.

The statement addressed a specific case where a registration slip indicated that the bearer had registered in Kasoa, Central Region, but listed their district as Ayawaso North in the Greater Accra Region.

"The attention of the Electoral Commission has been drawn to a Registration Slip circulating on social media, indicating that the bearer of the Registration Slip registered at Kasoa in the Central Region.

"The Registration Slip however gives the bearer's district as Ayawaso North in the Greater Accra Region.

"This error does not appear on the Applicant's Voter's ID Card. It reflects on the Registration Slip which only serves as a reference, should an Applicant seek to replace his/her Voter ID Card," portion of the statement read.

Emphasizing the purpose of the registration slip as a reference for potential ID card replacements, the EC reassured citizens that their voting rights remain intact despite any errors on the slip.

"We entreat citizens to remain steadfast and repose their confidence and trust in the Commission to deliver on its mandate.”

The Commission reiterated its commitment to organizing credible, free, and fair elections, come December 7 and beyond.
