Declaration Of Intent

03.05.2015 LISTEN
By Yabaaba Mohammed Dawud

Comrades, friends on this platform and well-wishers, today marks an important milestone in my life.

Firstly, today is my birthday and secondly I am also declaring my intention to run for the National Youth Organizer of the Convention People's Party (CPP) when nominations for National Executive positions are opened.

I have been a staunch member since 2006 when I joined as a student on Korle Bu campus.

I am a Senior Medical Laboratory Technician and lives in the Western Region of our republic. I also hold Bachelor of Arts in Economics and History from University of Ghana. I have varied experiences in leadership which has prepared me for the task I am about to undertake.

In both Primary and Junior Secondary School, I was elected Senior School Prefect and was also elected Students' Representative Council President at Sekondi College.

I was also elected the President of the Medical Laboratory Technology Students' Association in Korle Bu.

In my profession, I have also served as the Western Regional Secretary of the Ghana Association of Biomedical Laboratory Scientists from 2012 to 2014.

In the party, I have been a strong member of the Aowin-Suaman constituency and Western Regional Communication teams. I am also a member of the CPP Youth League and have been deeply involved in getting the necessary constitutional amendments that has ensured that the CPPYL draft her own Standing Orders and organize her own congress christened the “National Youth Assembly”.

Indeed by dint of hard work the Youth League Working Committee which I chair has been able to draft and presented the Standing Orders waiting for approval by the Central Committee of the party. I have also been working hard to revive our tertiary branches and have visited nine out of the ten regions to help with the revival drive.

The central theme of my campaign for the National Youth Organizer of the CPP is “Time for CPP Renaissance “. Renaissance means rebirth or revival. From historical perspective, it is the 14th century revival of Greek and Roman literature, architecture , arts and learning that originated from Italy and spread throughout Europe over the following two centuries.

Now is the time for the renaissance of the CPP considering our dwindling fortunes at polls since the year 2000.This is the party that used to command about 80% of the parliamentary seats yet today looks like a pale shadow of her former self.

Ghanaians appreciate the unparalleled achievements of the first republic led by the CPP yet do not vote for the CPP. Indeed the current crippling power crisis is just the combined effect of the clueless and visionless administration of the NPP and NDC but they these two parties still dominate the political landscape today.

Under such circumstances it requires sober reflection on what made CPP of old invincible which is missing in our generation. Our great leader, Osagyefo Dr Kwame Nkrumah always admonished the CPP members at the time which is also relevant for today that “Organize ! Organize ! Because organization decides all”. He also realized the need to liberate the energies of the youth when he formed the Committee for Youth Organization ( CYO) which metamorphosed into the CPP when he broke away.

The CPP has therefore been the natural home of enthusiastic and vibrant young people. Unfortunately our party today lacks the vibrancy that will propel her into power. Youth activities have not been properly coordinated and well organized therefore defeating their purposes. It is said that “unconsolidated energies are easily dissipated”.

It is therefore imperative that the renaissance of the CPP must give priority to attracting, motivating and retaining the youth in our fold. This is what has inspired me to run for the National Youth Organizer and the Leader of the CPP Youth League.

I am driven by the desire to bring a new spirit and dynamism which is based on grassroots organization of the CPP Youth League and our tertiary branches and not empty rhetoric.

I am counting on the teeming youth and students I have encountered across the country during my Youth League activities to help build a League we will all be proud of.

In the coming days I will outdoor my plan and programmes for the CPP Youth League.

Indeed it is Time for CPP Renaissance! Action ! Not rhetoric! is the battle cry.

Thank you.
