The dismissed Chairman of the Narcotic Control Board (NACOB) Baffour Assasie-Gyimah (Rtd) has broken his long silence over the raging cocaine saga and said, the board was dissolved to “please an angry and displeased god.”

President John Mahama dissolved the governing board of NACOB following the arrest of Ruby Adu Gyamfi, alias Nayele Ametefe in the UK for carrying cocaine.

The dissolution came a day after the Communications Minister Dr. Omane Boamah said on Citi FM that NACOB did not play any role in the arrest of Nayele Ametefe, even though NACOB had claimed it was involved.

The former Board Chair, said the basis for the dissolution did not make sense to him: “I cannot understand why the dissolution took place. Could it be a case of sacrificing a weak and innocent lamb to appease an angry and besieged god? …”

He was however quick to add that, “we are too strong for any god to devour. In truth, this is not the way my Board should exit NACOB.”

According to him, the Board has not done anything untoward to merit a dissolution.

Mr. Assasie-Gyimah said government's decision to dissolve the board affects the “hard won integrity and reputation of the individual members of the Board who have striven at great sacrifices to put NACOB on an even keel.”

Defending his claim on Eyewitness News, Mr. Gyimah maintained“that there was no reason why the Board should be dissolved ,especially coming after the seizure of drugs in London, and I think it is a huge mistake.”

Mr. Assasie-Gyimah further dismissed claims by the Minister of Communication, Omane Boamah that NACOB did not collaborate with the United Kingdom to arrest Nayele, saying “he cannot say that NACOB lied, he did not have any basis to say that.”

He insisted that the government officials who were accusing NACOB had not even called to inquire the involvement of NACOB in the arrest before attempting to discredit their claims.

He said the statement issued by the Deputy Executive Secretary of NACOB, indicating that there was collaborative effort between NACOB and its British partners cannot be “doubted.”
