The Wife of Former Minister of Information, Mr. Stephen Asamoah Boateng was yesterday hauled before An Accra Circuit Court to answer charges of alleged obstruction of the duties of Security personnel, when they were intercepted at the Kotoka International Airport (KIA) and prevented from traveling to the United Kingdom, in June, this year.
Mrs. Zuleika Asamoah Boateng was slapped with three counts of assault, the use of abusive language and forcibly collecting passport from security officer.
She had pleaded not guilty to the charges and the court had granted her bail to the tune of GH¢50,000.00 with two sureties to be justified.
Zuleika, a mother of two, was in the company of her husband, Mr. Asamoah Boateng a.k.a. Asabee, when she appeared in court together with scores of sympathizers to show solidarity for the embattled former Minister's wife.
Information had it that on June 14, 2009, when the accused person and her husband, Mr. Asamoah Boateng, together with their two children were about to get on board a British Airways flight to the United Kingdom (UK), personnel of the Bureau of National Investigations (BIN) intercepted and prevented them.
It was noted that the former Minister was required to appear before the BNI the following day for interrogation on alleged awards of contract during his tenure of office at the Ministry of Information.
At the KIA, when the personnel of the BNI took away the passports of the couple from the former Minister, the accused person was alleged to have snatched it from the security officer and hid in an obscure place close to her body. The accused person then started to hurl verbal attacks on the security officer using abusive words such as “idiots, 'Kwasiafuo', you cannot travel that is why you are here stopping people from traveling, you are hungry people and that is why you are here,” among others.
The accused person was therefore scheduled to re-appear in court on July 29, 2009.

Mrs Asabe should have behaved as a lady. How can you attack security officer. Can she do that in the UK? Not even to a common security officer at Mark and Spencer shop nor community police officer come to of National investigative Officers like BNI. These were people who have running from police officers before they manage to secure legal status. Even the husband who has been a minister of state before has been cooperating. I think the charges level against her is in order and if found guilty ...
