Coach of Kumasi Asante Kotoko Maxwell Konadu has explained the circumstances that led to the red card he received last Wednesday during Kotoko's clash with Chelsea.

He said the red card shown to him by referee William Agbovi was strategic, as it helped Kotoko to leave the Coronation Park without conceding a goal against the defending champions.

Coach Konadu, in a chat with Joe Laka of Angel FM, said he saw from the bench that one of the linesmen was not doing his job correctly, a situation which could have resulted in a goal being scored against his club.

The former Kotoko striker said he realized that the linesman usually delayed unduly before flagging Chelsea attackers offside though the players were in the offside position, stressing that this could have resulted in a goal against his side.

He said he therefore decided to question the linesman's tactics in the 'Wala' language but his actions did not go down well with the referee as he showed him the red card with 20 minutes to go.

The Kotoko trainer said though the red card was unfortunate, it had a positive effect, as it exposed the linesman's actions to the teeming crowd at the stadium so he could not continue his actions.
