JUN 7, 2016 LISTEN

Black Stars coach Avram Grant says the new players called up for Ghana's AFCON 2017 qualifier against Mauritius will serve as the basis for the future of the team.

Grant handed invitations to Kadri Mohammed of AshantiGold, Thomas Partey of Atletico Madrid and Patrick Twumasi of Astana. Of the three, only Partey played on Sunday but aside from the commendation given to him by Grant, the Israeli stated that Partey and the other new players were brought in to be groomed for the future.

'We have had lot of new players and for the Mauritius match, we had some more of them,' Grant told the media

'Some people say that after a year in the team, we should not classify players as being new but in the last two or so years, new faces have come in.'

'I feel that this team is good for the present but it has a very good future

'For Thomas Partey, we all saw his quality during the training sessions and I followed him for a long time. He is a key part of our future in terms of the national team.'

The Black Stars arrived in Accra on Monday from Mauritius. The next major thing on the to-do list of the team is to find out its opponents in the 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifying series for Africa. The draw will be held in Cairo on June 24
