GNP elects flagbearer March 29The Ghana National Party will hold its first National Delegates Congress on 29th March 2008 to among others, elect its presidential candidate and confirm the interim national executive.
This was made known at the party's first fund raising and dinner dance organised by the youth wing of the party.
The event was aimed at outsourcing funds from well wishers and sympathizers to hold the impending Congress.
According to Godwin Devey Suker, National Youth Organiser of GNP, after 51 years of political independence, the youth of today were searching for politicians who would live above such social ills as greed, nepotism, bribery and corruption and tribalism and rather work to ensure the attainment of economic independence.
Mr Suker said the youth of today were looking for politicians that would provide them with the basic needs of life which includes quality education, access to quality water, better health care, and good governance which he says the NPP government has failed to provide.
Addressing the gathering, Ofori Ampofo, an aspiring presidential candidate of the party said the economic conditions in Ghana were harsh and called on the youth to volunteer their time to educate illiterate Ghanaians about the need for Ghana to wage a restless economic war to better their lot.
He said "the Ghana National Party has come to stay and will actively contest the presidential and parliamentary elections in December 7 2008".
He described the party as the best hope for Ghana's economic independence and stability.
