Zakkour Throws In Towel
Chairman of Accra Hearts of Oak’s Interim Management Committee (IMC), Harry Zakkour has said that despite the hostile treatment meted out to his team in Gabon, he believes they lost to FC 105 due to their weak attack force.
Speaking to DAILY GUIDE SPORTS in Accra this week, Zakkour popularly known as ‘Champion Chairman’ disclosed that with the arrival of Hearts’ new coach Eyal Lachman from Israel, the club should be given time to pick up its form.
On reversing the 3-0 deficit against the Gabonese team, Zakkour said though he expects victory, it would not be so easy to beat FC 105 of Gabon by a wide margin.
He explained that the team’s participation in the CAF Champions’ league was the decision of the entire management Board of the club.
“If you refuse to go to Africa, you will be banned for three years and subsequently pay a fine at this stage,” he fumed.
Zakkour intimated that Hearts’ journey to Libreville and back cost the team over $30,000, therefore it would not be advisable to continue participating in the competition because management will spend more if the team qualifies.
“Going to Africa will bring more debt to the club in the future looking at the financial position of the team presently,” he lamented.
On the domestic front, Accra Hearts of Oak are in 6th position from the bottom of the ongoing Onetouch Premier League with 12 points from 11 games.
