THE CENTRAL Regional Executives of the National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT) have appealed to the Minister for Finance and Economic Planning, Kwadwo Baa-Wiredu to disclose when the Single Spine Salary Structure will be implemented.

A release issued in Cape Coast on Monday and signed by all the regional executives stated that sacrifices made by teachers at all levels of the educational ladder had not been given adequate recognition, stressing that the notion that teachers would get their reward in heaven should be discarded.

According to the Publicity and Organising Secretary, Aidan Adongo, the frequent increase in the prices of petroleum products without corresponding increases in salary of workers was making life unbearable for the working masses they could not meet the high cost of living in the country.

He revealed that last year, the Public Sector Reform, under the leadership of Dr. Paa Kwesi Nduom, instituted a committee that evaluated the workload of workers in various sectors of the economy, saying the committee's report resulted in the implementation of the Single Spine Structure aimed at correcting distortions in workers' salaries.

NAGRAT has therefore appealed to the Finance Minister to come out with the exact date when the new salary structure would be implemented, as the public was made to understand that the new structure would take effect from the beginning of this year
Mr. Adongo emphasized the need for government to motivate teachers so they would give off their best, adding that the “teacher is the pivot around the implementation of the curriculum”.

He further appealed to the Minister for Education, Science and Sports to let teachers know the stage they have reached regarding their allowances and other incentives which are intended to motivate them to go the extra mile and help in achieving the goals of the new educational reform.
