Volta Regional Police Commander, DCOP Bernard Dery has lashed out at politicians for causing panic and playing politics with an alleged assassination attempt on Regional Minister Kofi Dzamesi, which claimed two lives.

In a report filed by Joy correspondent Agbeko Ben Coffie on Thursday, DCOP Dery was incensed with the behaviour of some politicians using the assassination attempt as a ploy to achieve their own political motives.

According to the commander, the deaths of Dan Dzikunu Agbeli the alleged assassinator, and Supt. Theophilus Nartey, the Municipal Police Commander, were regrettable and should not be trivialised.

Bernard Dery said this at the wake keeping of the late police commander on Wednesday.

Bernard Dery's criticisms come in the wake of demands by the Volta Regional Chairman of the NDC Modestus Ahiable for his (Dery) transfer over what he referred to as his incompetence and unprofessionalism.

Modestus Ahiable had also requested for the immediate removal of the Regional Minister for calling a state of emergency after the incident.

This Bernard Dery said was not in the interest of the region.

According to him, three bodies were conducting independent investigations into the matter and would be out with their findings very soon.

On 2nd June 2008, Dzikunu Agbeli died in an alleged assassination attempt at the residence of the Regional Minister. Supt. Theeophilus Nartey also died in a struggle to overpower the intruder.
