NEW: Ghana Tourist Villas offers an unforgettable holiday and business experience in Accra.
The National Identification Authority (NIA) has dispelled reports that the yet to be introduced Identification (ID) card has been faked, way ahead of its issuance.

The authority says it is very difficult and almost impossible for anyone to duplicate the identification card since only one specimen has even been brought to the public domain.

The Director of Information at the NIA, Vida Dzeble, dispelled the rumour in an interview with on Adom FM's Dwaso Nsem programme on Thursday.

She was reacting to media reports that a 22-year old Nigerian had been arrested for faking the National Identification Card.

Speaking from the Central Region, where the mass registration exercise aimed at collating personal data the national I.D. cards, Mrs. Dzeble expressed surprise about the reports saying no card had been issued since the exercise is in the registration stage and therefore wondered how the suspect managed to get the specimen copy for printing.

She said the security features associated with the new National Identification Card is unique that it can easily be detected if it is faked.

The 22 year old Nigerian is reported to have been arrested by personnel of the Ghana Immigration service at the paga border post following a body search on him when he attempted to cross into Burkina Faso with the fake ID cards and a number of complimentary cards including one purported to be that of President Kufuor.

According to the report, the suspect is currently detained by the Navrongo police and assisting in investigations.
