Eleven people were arrested yesterday at Bunkpurugu, in connection with the recent violent clashes between the Mamprusis and Bimobas in the Bunkpurugu-Yunyoo District of the Northern Region.

The first incident happened at Yunyoo which later spilled over to Jimbali, both farming communities. In all, about 13 people were reported killed, with houses and property destroyed.

All those arrested are in police custody at Bunkpurugu and will be put before court soon.

Hundreds of people are said to have been displaced following the clash over a piece of land at Yunyoo.

Another source said the youth in Bunkpurugu had gone into hiding since the deployment of military-cum-police personnel to the two areas.

Mr Yussif Ibrahim, District Co-coordinating Director, confirmed the arrests and said some degree of calm has been restored to the areas.

He said the security personnel have mounted barriers at all points of entry to the district.
