The Central Regional branch of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) has sent a word of caution to all journalists to be circumspect in their reportage especially as the nation prepares for the 2008 general elections in order not to throw the country into chaos.

The association has also warned Journalists not to be tempted by any person or group of persons to be drawn into any act of unprofessionalism and rather execute their duties as watchdogs of society.

The caution was contained in a statement signed by the Acting Central Regional Chairman of the GJA, Mr George Ebow Sackey.

The statement further urged all politicians and the general public to be careful with their pronouncements in their quest for political power during the electioneering.

“The peace of the country supersedes all individuals and organizational ambitions and we would want to urge the public, particularly politicians to be careful in their pronouncements”, the statement said.

The association also expressed concern at the increasing number of imposters working as journalists in the region and the country at large, which drives the name of the profession into disrepute and challenged members to report such people.

It charged event organizers to contact the appropriate media houses to cover their programmes in order to make it a success.

It called on all journalists that are not members of the association to join the association.
