The Ghanaian; Ignorance Or Political Blindness

The Ghanaian; Ignorance Or Political Blindness
30.01.2017 LISTEN

Incorrectness is not a disease, but to the extent incorrectness is practiced deliberately and consistently among a people, one cannot help but to diagnose the practitioners as being infested by a deadly disease of ignorance or self infected blindness. When President Akkufu-Addo charged Ghanaians to be citizens, and not spectators or subjects, many either misunderstood him or deliberately refused to live to the spirit of his words. Forget about the fact that he plagiarised those words. For purpose and intent, and /or by the spirit of his words, we're, as a people, expected to participate fully in our country's development and decisions that leads to this development. In so doing, we are expected to hold government accountable, so as to ensure responsible and good governance. This way, no Ghanaian would be a spectator or subject, but real citizens to the letter.

Unfortunately, Ghana is made of too many political biases; a phenomenon that has given room for our politicians to commit blunders in our very eyes and go scot free. The corruption in our public sectors; the many dysfunctional public institutions; the lies by our politicians; the misinformation by the media; the bias of the media; the shielding of wrong based on one's political inclination, are just, but few of the ills left unchecked. Interestingly, the Ghanaian who's expected to be a citizen is either uninformed and ignorant about these ills or to a large extent, informed, but politically blinded. The Ghanaian swallows wrong as right, and the vice versa, depending on which political party does what.

Our ignorance and/or political blindness is on apogaeum; we cannot be citizens with this attitudinal deficit. The gods must be crazy! Our parliament and her children has become a pot filled with gold, that is tainted, yet we sit unconcerned. We do not care if our parliamentarians engaged in spoils of our resources or so to say, openly lie their way to the august house and continue to lie even in the house. Thus, depending on which party a parliamentarian belongs.

We're visited by a case of bribery and corruption, and instead of asking relevant questions, we're, as ignorant and /political blinded citizens concerned about the individuals involved, and attacking their persons as though, that was the relevant thing.

Fellow citizens, either the allegation is true or false, we must be bothered about the devil called "sitting allowance" that has given birth to this bribery allegation. This is public rape of our resources. We voted for our MPs to work, and as part of their terms of service, they must SIT and work. Why should we for their SITTING and pay them monthly salaries? Imagine if we have to pay THREE THOUSAND GHANA CEDIS to MPs for sitting, and that MPs sit for more than TEN times in a month, what the hell of waste are we doing to our resources? Yet, robotic Ghanaians are not bothered? Kaman how?

Our MPs are openly throwing jabs at each other, and instead of calling on them to do the honorable thing and resign for lying, we're celebrating and protecting them. The gods might've travelled! What is wrong with us? Not even myjoyonline.com is asked to apologize to us for misinforming us and later pulling down the said publication.

We are not bothered that Joe Wise lied too, to have opined that Ayaraga apologised and withdrew his allegations. We're not bothered that the nominee who's at the center of this alleged bribery has been sworn-in by the President when he's yet to be cleared on same. We are not bothered that our President has sworn a minister into office when the minister is out of the country. We are not bothered that our media is irresponsible in the discharge of their duty.

Where have we gone wrong? Where's our citizenship?

The Ghanaian is either ignorant or politically blind. We must change our ways, or shall remain spectators and subjects in the face of wrong.

Long live Ghana!
