Juaso (Ash), Aug 24, GNA - The Asante-Akim South District Chief Executive (DCE), Mr. De-graft Forkuo, has profusely denied canvassing for votes for the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP).

He said media reports that he was working against the interest of his own party, the National Democratic Congress (NDC), was not only false but 'unforgivable and scandalous'.

'Resorting to mischief and telling untruths about people you disagree with is not an honorable thing for anybody to do.'

The DCE, who is also the governing party's parliamentary candidate, made the denial through the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in Juaso.

The New Crusading Guide newspaper had in its Monday, August 22 edition, carried a story that sought to suggest that Mr. Forkuo had been encouraging people to give their votes to him and the NPP Presidential Candidate.

Sounding emotional, he said, it was completely absurd, politically unwise and simply unimaginable to betray the very President, who had given him the opportunity to serve his people and nation.

He indicated that the palpable falsehood would not distract him from working hard to deliver the constituency seat that had been held by the NPP since 1996 to the NDC.

Mr. Fokuo said there were clear signs that the party was heading towards a comfortable victory in both the presidential and parliamentary elections in the area.

The people in the constituency would reward the Mahama Administration with their votes for the substantial infrastructure development brought to them and 'it is the fear of losing the seat to the NDC that is pushing their political opponents to engage in the smear campaign', he added.

Meanwhile, the man behind the false publication, has been identified and handed over to the police.

His name was given as Emmanuel Mensah, a known NPP activist.
