Kodie (Ash), Aug 10, GNA - The Afigya-Kwabre South Parliamentary Candidate of the Peoples' National Convention (PNC), Mr. Robert Dambo, has promised to lead a campaign to reform the education system, if elected as law maker.

He said the current system, was out of step with the real needs of industry and that there was an urgent need to change course.

It had become necessary to put in place a system that would provide students with the requisite practical and intellectual skills to make them employable - to bring down the rising unemployment and disillusionment among many a university graduate.

Mr. Dambo, who spoke to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) on his development vision for the constituency, stated that, the high graduate unemployment, could become a major disincentive and discourage many young people from staying in school.

He said it was therefore important to act to prevent an already bad situation from getting worse.

That, Mr. Dambo warned, would hurt the socio-economic development of the country.

He underlined the need to run academic programmes, which would help the nation to make the most of its natural resources - oil and gas fields, gold and other mineral deposits, lands and tourist sites.

He said this was the way forward to grow the economy and create opportunities for everybody.

He gave the assurance that he would do everything to promote vocational and technical education in the constituency by helping to provide the needed infrastructure.

Tackling environmental sanitation challenges was his other major priority, he added.
