Agona West Assembly approves president's nominee

Agona Swedru (C/R), July 24, GNA - Members of the Agona West Municipal Assembly have approved Mr Samuel Oppong, as the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) after President John Dramani Mahama has re-appointment him.

Mr Oppong polled 31 yes as against 12 no votes in the 43 members present.

The MCE, in the first round obtained 27 Yes and 16 No that constituted 50 percent of total yes but failed to get two-third majority of the house.

The election was jointly supervised by Mr Anobil-Forson, Agona West Municipal Director (EC) and Mr Anthony Nyame, Deputy Central Regional Director of Electoral Commission (EC).

Addressing members of the Assembly after endorsement, Mr Rickets Kweku Hagan, Central Regional Minister, urged the members to stay focused to ensure peace and stability.

He called on the MCE to desist from acts that can create confusion among the party members and Agona West Assembly.

The Regional Minister said the first rejection at his election indicates that all was not well with some members of the Party and asked the MCE to make amends to ensure smooth administration of the office.

Okofo Katakyi Nyarkoh Eku X, Omanhene of Nyakrom Traditional Council, said the four year in office as MCE had brought significant changes in the areas of health, education, roads and socio-economic advancement into the Municipality.

Okofo Katakyi Nyarkoh Eku expressed hope that the approval of MCE would boost developments projects and raise the standard of living in the area.
