Anglogold Ashanti Obuasi Mine Partners Project Cure To Support Obuasi Government Hospital With Medical Equipment Valued At ₵1.3m 

Obuasi (Ashanti), July 20 - As part of its commitment to improve the health of people living in and around its operational area, AngloGold Ashanti Ghana Limited (AGA) has supported the Obuasi Government Hospital with a range of medical equipment.

The medical equipment donated included suction machines, general surgery packs and supplies, surgical instruments and dental supplies estimated at a value of approximately ₵1.3 million.

This donation was a partnership with Project Cure, a health delivery NGO in the USA whose main aim is to bring about improvement in healthcare delivery in developing countries.

Presenting the items, Mr Eric Asubonteng, General Manager and Managing Director of AGA Obuasi Mine remarked that the kind gesture was a demonstration of AngloGold’s commitment to supporting the development of Obuasi and its surrounding communities.

He said “the company has over the years supported the hospital in various ways, including the provision of Doctors bungalows, generators and the construction of some wards. We intend to continue to support the people of Obuasi as long as it is within our means to do so.”

According to him, the management of AGA is currently considering replicating this gesture in other health facilities in and around Obuasi.

He was optimistic that the medical facilities would significantly benefit the hospital as they were specifically selected based on the recommendations of the team which was tasked to assess the needs of the hospital prior to the selection process.

“It is the expectation of both the Management of AGA and Project Cure that these items will be put to the utmost judicious use and also that a very coherent maintenance regime is adopted as far as the equipment are concerned”, he added.

He reiterated AGA’s commitment to its social interventions, including the Malaria Control program, the AGA Community Trust Fund, and the provision of water in some stakeholder communities among others.

Receiving the items on behalf of the hospital, Mr John Alexander Ackon, Ashanti Regional Minister assured AGA and its partners that the facilities will be put to maximum use to improve on the lives of the people.

Also present at the function were Hon Richard Ofori Agyemang, Obuasi Municipal Chief Executive, Dr. Amankwaa, Municipal Director of the Ghana Health Service, Sheick Gibril, and head of the Muslim Community, A representative of the Catholic Bishop of the Obuasi Diocese and Krontihene of Kwapia, who represented the Adansihene.
