PPP 1 district, 1 factory policy our idea, not NPPs – PPP
JUN 21, 2016 LISTEN

The Progressive People's Party (PPP), has claimed that it is the original owner of the one factory, one district idea, announced by the opposition New Patriotic Party flagbearer, Nana Akufo-Addo.

Nana Addo announced to students of the Cape Coast Polytechnic over the weekend, that his administration plans to establish a factory in each of the 216 districts of Ghana if he’s elected into office.

Days after Nana Addo's announcement, the General Secretary of the PPP, Murtala Mohammed, has said the NPP copied his party's policy proposal.

“We are telling Ghanaians that we are the originators of those ideas and there is the need for the media to call the presidential candidates for them to give details so that we can see the difference,” the party's General Secretary said.

According to Mr. Mohammed, “the details tell which one has the original idea, or which one can implement the ideas better” and the fact that NPP allegedly copied the PPP’s policy served to “enforce the point that, we have the better policies to serve this country.”

Mr. Mohammed maintained that the PPP's 10-point agenda was the only solution to Ghana's problems an urged Ghanaians to embrace it as such.

“We want Ghanaians to know that, we are originators. Our 10-point agenda is the only panacea in this country so why do you go for something that is not authentic when there is the original,” he said.

Ignore the sceptics
Nana Addo’s pronouncement has been met with some criticism aside the PPP’s claims. But he has urged Ghanaians to ignore persons who are discrediting his policy saying such sceptics, have always made it a point to bastardize policies and programmes announced by him.

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) administration has said Nana Addo’s policy is  not attainable , describing it as a desperate vote-buying promise.

But Nana Addo retorted that, “anytime I bring an idea, my political opponents will say 'he cannot do it', only to turn round, use the backdoor, and try to implement it.”
