From Ernest Best Anane, Kumasi
Times it is better todie than to tolerate bad leadership to decide one's destiny.”

VERY REV. Fr. Louis Tuffuor, the Vicar General of the Kumasi Archdiocese of the Catholic Church, has expressed worry over the hardship that ordinary Ghanaians are going through, as a result of policies and programmes of the government, regarding the management of the economy.

According to him, it is time the church stands up and speaks against bad policies of the government that are affecting the citizenry negatively. The Reverend Father noted that sometimes it is good to die than to tolerate bad leadership to decide one's destiny.

Speaking at the Corpus Christi Parish of the Catholic Church at New Tafo, a suburb of Kumasi, as part of the celebration of the extraordinary Ministers, the Vicar General said the citizens of this country ought to be treated better, but government officials and politicians have decided to enrich themselves at the expense of the ordinary poor Ghanaian.

Rev. Fr. Tuffuor said human right must be paramount in terms of governance, and questioned why there should be huge taxes and acts of corruption which was affecting the business landscape, especially electricity bills.

The priest condemned the government communicators for alleging that electricity officials were against the government.  He was equally not happy with the order government gave to the ECG recently. In the circumstance, Rev. Fr. Tuffuor said the government was not helping Ghanaians if it cannot direct public institutions to deliver on their mandate.

He indicated that, government had lost focus in the area of agriculture and wondered why farmers should pay for fertilizer supplied them. To him, the bad agricultural policies explain why Ghana is trailing behind Cote d’Ivoire in the production of cocoa.

Father Tuffuor advised the government to adopt good policies to boost the economic activities. According to him, payment of school fees has become a headache for most parents who struggle to pay fees due to economic hardship.
