MAY 13, 2016 LISTEN

The Apam foforↄ (New Convenant) campaign tour of the Convention People’s Party (CPP) has hit Damongo, Bole and Sawla in the West Gonja districts of the Northern Region.

In the entourage, are the Presidential Candidate -Ivor Kobina Greenstreet, Chairman and Leader – Prof Edmund Delle, Campaign Strategist – Kwabena Bomfeh Jnr, as well as the National Organiser – Emmanuel Kwao Ogborjor. The delegation was joined in the region by the Regional Steering Committee led by Alhaji Issah Zoro, the regional Chairman.

Apam foforↄ, the biblical word for a new covenant translates into Gonja as Ashem-porpor. Among the Gonjas, it also means renewal of attitude, change and redirection as well as a frank assessment of one’s life or way of doing things over the years.

At Damongo, they met the Yagbon Wura Tutumba Boresa I at the Ndewura Jakpa Palace where the Presidential Candidate gave his message of “Ashem-porpor” and asked the Yagbon overlord for his blessing and prayers as well as permission to engage the people of Gonjaland.

Ivor Kobina Greenstreet said “we are here with clean hearts and sincere thoughts to engage with our people in the message of ‘kashiÆžteng’ which is the truth as we all know in Gonjaland.”

He added that the CPP was for the progress and advancement of all Ghanaians and so would not claim any region to be her world bank except to say that they believed in the world bank of truth, sincerity, honesty, sacrifice, hope, devotion, courage and love for all.

On his part, the Yagbon overlord who spoke through his linguist welcomed Lawyer Greenstreet and his entourage and thanked them for the respect and courtesy shown him. He invoked the spirits of almighty God and of the Gonja ancestory to be with the delegation wherever they go.

He added that they know too well that the seed of CPP especially in the Northern part of Ghana was sown, watered and nurtured by Gonjas. He assured the CPP high powered delegation that Yagbon won’t forget their historical ties and lead role in the CPP.

At the lorry park in the main Damongo township, where a mini rally was held to introduce the CPP Parliamentary candidate, Mr Greenstreet bemoaned the failure of Government to provide employment opportunities for the teeming unemployed youth who came to meet the team. He further criticised the NDC government for allowing the water dams to dry up in Damongo, despite the enormous potential for irrigation activities and for the growth of agriculture in the North.

He challenged the NDC administration to let Ghanaians testify to their stewardship instead of their so called accounting to the people tour. “The dams are dry, we see it. Our farming capacities are missing. We are here, we want to work but there are no jobs. So what are they accounting to us?” He quizzed to the applause of the youth.

From Damongo, the entourage continued their journey to Sawla and Bole where CPP members and the general public received them in their numbers. The delegation is now heading towards the Upper West where they shall be engaging people of the region.
