The Electoral Commission has assured it would correct wrong dates printed on a limited number of voter ID cards issued on Thursday when the limited voter registration exercise took off.

A statement issued by the Commission Friday said in two of the 3,500 registration centres it opened nationwide, the date 27/04/2016 instead of 28/04/2016 appeared on some of the voter ID cards issued to applicants.

'It occurred at the Boko R/C Primary (F110101) in the Atwima-Kwanwoma District and the Methodist Park (F130702A) Asouyeboa - Kwadaso registration centres. The irregularities, which were due to operators' errors, were detected and quickly rectified. The errors affected 13 and 18 applicants in the respective registration centres,' the statement signed by Deputy Chairman (Operations), Amadu Sulley explained.

'The Commission wishes to assure the affected people that the errors will be corrected when the data is exported to the database and new cards will be issued to them.

'The Commission further wishes to thank the people in the affected areas for their cooperation and understanding, which ensured that the exercise continued smoothly after the detection and rectification of the errors,' it said.

The EC estimates to register 1.2 million voters during the exercise spanning April 28 to May 8, 2016.
