Deputy Communications Director of the Convention People’s Party (CPP) says Ivor Greenstreet’s knack for keeping in touch with the grassroots would be a winning tactic in the November 7 presidential polls.

Kadri Abdul Rauf recalls that same tactic endeared the CPP founder and Ghana’s first President, Kwame Nkrumah, to Ghanaians in the late forties, insisting Mr Greenstreet will cause a major stir in this year's polls.

“Ivor Greenstreet – if you look at his background – he is from a bourgeoisie background, but he has committed class suicide.

“There is something that we call ‘class suicide’ within the Marxist parlance. When you come from a rich background and you are able to bring yourself to the poor people, you have committed ‘class suicide’,” he explained.

Kadri Rauf was speaking Monday on news analysis programme, PM Express, aired on the Joy News channel on Multi TV.

“This was same thing that Kwame Nkrumah did when he came back [to Ghana] from the United States of America. He was a Lecturer in U.S. he had several opportunities. If he also wanted, he could stay on his high horse. But Kwame Nkrumah committed class suicide by bring himself down, and that same thing Ivor Kwabina Greenstreet has done,” he said.

Former CPP General Sectretary, Ivor Greenstreet, in a surprise outcome beat former party Chair, Samia Nkrumah -- who was tipped to win the elecions last Saturday -- to become the party’s presidential candidate for the November elections.

Although some political analysts have downplayed Mr Greenstreet’s ability to win in the general elections that has always been dominated by the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mr Rauf thinks otherwise.

He revealed that the CPP’s own analysis of the country’s political terrain shows Mr Greenstreet – who is strapped to a wheel chai after an accident – has the special gift of pulling the teeming youth to the party.

“He was not born physically disabled. He got an accident and in that accident the people who were also involved in the accident all perished except him. And we [CPP] think that he is cut out for a bigger agenda. There is something about him that made Allah not to take his life,” Mr Rauf said.
