The old adage goes, "As you lay your bed, so you lie on it." I would like to allude to this old saying to express my displeasure with many people questioning the meaning of life as to why we suffer so much in life only to die someday. I am sure you have asked yourself this very same question a countless number of times. I do believe that we all lay our beds every morning when we wake up. It just takes a number of hours before we come back from wherever we went and come to lie on that same bed, tempering with the neatly laid bed. Should coming back to 'mess' up the the bed prevent us from laying it in the first place? In the same vein, we cannot throw up in despair only to give in to mediocrity saying that why 'work our assess off' only to end up in a box in some dugout hole someday? But that should not scare us. It rather should push us to leave our marks and footprints on the surface of the earth after we are dead and gone. It has been 47 years since Dr. Martin Luther King Jnr died but his name is on the fingertips of speechwriters today and on the lips of orators. December 5th would mark the 2nd year anniversary of the demise of Nelson Mandela but today the world remembers him. Hellen Keller is a woman who would never be forgotten in the annals of history and that would not have been possible if she sat down to pity herself and despise her situation thereby causing her to do nothing. There are people today who are able bodied but beg on the street. Indeed, the saying that the wise do not fear death is true. When you know that you have done your bit in life, death would come as a 'respite' at old age. I believe the fear of death is what pushes us to the wall in thinking about all these things.

In a short piece to introduce or usher us into the last month of the year 2015, I say that we have come so far, we have seen so much but there is so much more to do. If we are so lucky to live to see 1st January, 2016, what change do we ant to see in our lives?; What progress would we have made? This is our chance to answer that call. This is our moment and this is the time to make a difference and be the change that we want to see. While we breath, we hope. When we are met with doubt and those who tell us we cannot, we will respond with what Barack Obama calls the timeless creed that sums up the spirit of a people; YES WE CAN!

Let us summon that spirit that pushes us to do those things that would affect our lives positively and also the lives of those around us. Through the best of times and the darkest of hours, we know we can change and make our lives a lot better. Let us remember that there is a price to pay for doing nothing. We still have the chance to change the course of our lives and chart it on a path of assured success. May the good Lord bless us all.
