Growing up, my family wasn’t the most well to do. This sounds cliché but in my part of the world and in the village I come from, this was my reality. I lived the early years of childhood with my grandparents in the Ashanti Region of Ghana. Farming was the order of the day and education was seen as an unnecessary luxury. I was fortunate to find my way through the system and graduate from Ghana’s premiere University, University of Ghana, with a Barchelor’s degree in Sociology, Philosophy and Adult Education. I am Steward Osei Bawuah, CEO of Childlift Aid Foundation (CAF) and this is my story.

Childlift Aid Foundation (CAF) is a Christian non-Profit and rural child development organization with a mission to ensure that every child in Africa is secured against poverty through the promotion of quality education, health and spiritual development focused on the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

Dedicating myself to Childlift Aid Foundation after completing University was a no brainer as I had seen first-hand the hardships many kids encountered in many parts of Ghana. The tough events of my early years as a child also influenced my decision to devote myself to ensuring no child is left behind in the educational ladder.

While in university, I saw a lot of students write thesis and project works on the various societal problems of the country only for grades. These comprehensive write ups highlighted the problems of the country and offered recommendations only to be shelved after grades had been given. I decided to be the change I wanted to see and took it upon myself to change the lives of others around me through the activities of CAF.

Indeed, "Woforo dua pa a, na yepia wo" ("When you climb a good tree, you are given a push"). The works of CAF continues to be funded by benevolent individuals and institutions who have seen the good works and positive impact of CAF over the years. Childlift has touched the lives of many. Some of our works are listed below:

  • 2 Read Aloud Schools in Samankwaa Village (Eastern Region) and Holuta (Volta Region)
  • 2 Ongoing Clinic Building Projects in Keteke Village and Apiedem Village in the Eastern Region
  • Sponsored over 120 needy but brilliant children in Eastern, Ashanti and Volta Region.
  • Dewormed over 6400 Children through the GoodBye Worms Tour Initiative
  • Funded surgeries of 5 children suffering from cancer, acute Kidney Failure, Inguinal hernia.
  • And a lot more

It is my hope that I am able to inspire the youth to support and build our country because “oman no beyie a efiri yen ara” (the success of our nation is in our hands).
