The people of Bolgatanga, the Upper-East regional capital of Ghana, took their turn in the month-long celebration of savanna festival, over the weekend.

According to Mr. Tawfiq Moomen, the MTN Regional Sales Manager, the programme, dubbed, “MTN-Savana-Feat”, was part of his company’s social action, to celebrate the loyalty of the people of the Savanna Belt (Northern, Upper East and Upper West) to MTN.

He explained that the festival covered three broad areas of Media Interaction, Business Promotion and Community Engagement.

The Editors’ Forum enable the MTN tell its success story to the world through the media; while the Business Fair showcases MTN’s products and services to individuals and corporate organisations.

These activities are crowned with health walk and inter-community soccer gala, as a way of engaging various communities to hunt for football talents to feed the local and international job markets.

“MTN is committed to the socio-economic development and transformation of Ghana and its people, hence this annual event”, Tawfiq stated.

Tindomnlogo, Yikine, Bolgasoe, Tindonsobiligo, Kotokoli Line, Atulbabisi, Gumbisi, Daporitindongo, Tanzui and Dagmeo were the ten (10) communities which participated in this year’s inter-community soccer gala aspect of the Savana Festival, at the Bolga Mobil Park.

Daporitindongo beat Dagmeo 8 – 7 on penalties, in the finals, after a scoreless full time, to win the tournament. They received GH¢600 and GH¢400 cash plus souvenirs respectively.

Clement Atidaan of Daporitindongo emerged the overall Best Player of the tournament, while Dagmeo’s Robert Ayamga, won the Beat Goalkeeper award.

Mr. George Sarfo-Agyai, Upper East Regional Director of the National Sports Authority, Mr. Salifu Shaibu Zida, the Regional Football Association (RFA) chairman, and Mr. Shilla Alhassan an ex-soccer star, were amongst several dignitaries who graced the occasion with their presence.

They unanimously commended MTN and its partners like Suncity Radio, for the laudable initiative and support towards the unearthing and development of soccer talents in the region and Ghana as a whole and pledged their support and co-operation at all times.

The sports pundits also appealed to other stakeholders to lend support to MTN’s worthy course.

Wa, the Upper West regional capital will have the last laugh later in the month, to draw the curtain down on this unique annual celebration.
