Saboba (NR), Oct. 09, GNA - Mr Adolf John Ali, District Chief Executive (DCE) for Saboba District has appealed to chiefs and opinion leaders to help the Assembly to develop the area for the benefit of the people.
He said chiefs and opinion leaders played a pivotal role in community development and stressed the need for them not to remain idle in the District's quest for development to end poverty and illiteracy.
Mr Ali made the appeal in Saboba during the inauguration of the Assembly last Tuesday, where some 36 Assembly Members were sworn-in by a Tamale based Lawyer, Mr Issah Mamoud to serve a four-year term.
The Assembly also elected Mr Nagob Solomon Nporiba, an Assembly member for the Natagu Electoral Area as the Presiding Member (PM) to steer affairs of the Assembly.
'I wish to make a special appeal to our traditional leaders, stakeholders and opinion leaders to give their full and unwavering support to the Assembly to succeed in its quest to develop the district,' he said.
He said all in the District needed to develop strong and unflagging commitment devoid of partisan party prejudices towards the development of the district, and that it was only through development that the District could forge ahead in unity.
Mr Ali appealed to members of the Assembly to work in unity and bring useful ideas to enhance the development of the Assembly and alleviate the plight of the people.
President John Dramani Mahama, in a speech read on his behalf, assured that government would continue to play a major role in developing the districts by providing the needed logistics, staffing and office accommodation.
He said though government was providing resources it was important for the assemblies to generate the needed revenue for recurrent expenditure and funding development project.
He expressed concern about the unplanned and haphazard development in some districts and cautioned the Town and Country Planning and the Survey departments as well as Lands Commission to live up to expectations.
