Assembly members advised to seek interest of the people

Odumase, Oct. 8, GNA - Madam Agnes Kusi, Sunyani West District Chief Executive (DCE) has advised Assembly members to seek the well-being of residents in their communities and not for their personal interest.

Madam Kusi gave the advice at the inauguration of the 57-member Assembly, including seven females, three elected and four government appointees on Tuesday at Odumase near Sunyani.

Three of the females were elected whilst four are part of the 17 government appointees to the Assembly.

She entreated them to assist the Assembly in the formulation and implementation of effective policies and programmes to improve the living conditions of the people.

The DCE emphasised the need for the Assembly Members (AM) to avoid politicization of issues and rather conduct themselves as dedicated and selfless individuals by forging ahead in unity with their experiences and knowledge to enhance the realization of the objectives of the Assembly.

Madam Kusi stated that the Assembly would continue to ensure the maintenance of peace in a cordial atmosphere to promote development of the District.

Mrs. Joan Eyi Kings, a Circuit Court Judge at Fiapre in the District, led the AMs to swear the three national oaths of allegiance, office and secrecy.

The Assembly after the inauguration could however, not elect a Presiding Member (PM) because none of the two contestants could attain the required two/thirds percentage of the total valid votes cast.

Nana Kwaku Asante Nketia Kyenkyenhene, a retired educationist and government appointee who is also the former PM obtained 29 while Mr. Bernard Oduro Takyi, an Entrepreneur and AM for Kwatire had 22 with six spoil ballots.

The election, conducted under the 'Yes' and 'No' procedure was supervised by officials from the District Office of the Electoral Commission. GNA
