Nsuta (Ash), Oct 8, GNA - President John Mahama has expressed concern about the steady degradation of the environment, particularly environmental sanitation and waste management.

He has, therefore, appealed to Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDA's) to find solution to the problem.

This was contained in the President's address read on his behalf by Dr. Victor Asare Gyampo, the Deputy Minister of Health, during the inauguration of the Sekyere Central District Assembly at Nsuta in the Ashanti Region.

The President cautioned the Town and Country Planning Department, the Lands Commission and the Survey Department, to abide by the rules and regulations of their profession, concerning the allocation of plots, to ensure that these plots were developed according to their designated land use, in order to avoid the danger of flooding and the accompanying loss of life and property anytime it rained.

He advised MMDAs to generate the needed revenue, and stop the over-reliance on the District Assembly Common Fund (DACF) and other central government releases.

For the third consecutive time, the 41 Assembly Members elected Mr. Ebenezer Afoakwa Sekyere as the Presiding Member.

He polled 32 out of the 39 votes, while his main challenger Mr. Richard Oppong had seven votes

The former Assembly Members appealed to the District Chief Executive Mr. Ebenezer Akuoko Frimpong and the Presiding Member, to ensure that their ex-gratia was paid to them without any further delay.
