Sunyani, Sept. 19, GNA - The more than 2,500 delegates attending the 2015 national Congress of the Convention Peoples Party (CPP), have been charged to strategise well and work out realistic modalities to win the Election 2016.

Nana Supi Bentil-Enchil, a senior member of the Party, said a united CPP would not only make significant impact, but win the general election.

He was addressing delegates, supporters and sympathisers of the party at the opening session of the congress, underway at the Sunyani Polytechnic.

Nana Bentil-Enchil, who is a legal practitioner and political pundit, advised the candidates vying for positions and their supporters to eschew tendencies that could bring division after the congress.

He emphasised the need for leadership and members of the CPP to educate the electorate and the public on the concept of 'Nkrumaism'.

Madam Samia Nkrumah, the out-going Chairperson and Leader of the CPP, urged members of the Party to close their ranks and stand united as one Party and welcome all Ghanaians willing to join them for victory in the Election 2016.

She said 2016 would be 50 years, when the illegal overthrow of CPP government under the leadership of the late Dr Kwame Nkrumah, the first President of Ghana occurred.

This, Madam Samia, who said she was then six years, explained was why supporters and members of the Party ought to remain courageous and intensify campaign for total victory.

She said Dr Nkrumah started the path to economic independence, and there is the need for Ghanaians to vote for the Party to transform the dwindling economy of the nation for poverty alleviation.

Madam Samia asked the delegates to rally solidly behind whoever would win the various positions and guard against intimidations by conducting themselves in a more responsive and decorous manner.

Mr. Emmanuel Wilson, the National Organiser of the People's National Convention (PNC), in a solidarity message, said the unity of the Nkrumaist parties is required for Ghana to get a formidable third force in its multi-party democracy.

He said the CPP and the PNC have a common political ideology and philosophy, saying it is therefore important that the Nkrumaists unite as a family to make great impact on the country's political landscape.

Mr Wilson stated that as the highest decision making body of the CPP, the PNC expected delegates to vote for candidates who would serve the Party better.
