Two pressmen elected assembly members in C/R

Cape Coast, Sept. 2, GNA - The Central Regional Correspondent of Accra-based Peace FM and another journalist from Ahomka FM in Elmina, have both won their respective assembly member slots in the just ended District Assembly Elections in the Central Region.

Peace FM's Mr Prince Nana Sanka, who also reports for Eagle FM, an affiliate station in Cape Coast, won at the Jukwa Krobo electoral area in the Hemang Lower Denkyira District, after beating his opponent with a margin of 85 votes.

Okatakyi Nana Kweku Ackon, the Ahomka FM reporter and presenter, also polled 319 out of 602 valid votes, to beat four other contestants at the Kissi West Electoral Area in the Komenda- Edina- Eguafo-Abrem Municipality.

In an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA), Nana Sanka expressed gratitude to the electorates for the confidence reposed in him and reiterated his commitment to the development of the area.

Meanwhile, three other reporters in the region, who contested in Cape Coast and Mankessim could not obtain the mandate of the people.

In all, 1,693 candidates including 85 female contested in the District Assembly Elections in the Region whilst 4,223 persons, comprising 529 female, contested for the Unit Committee slots.

The District Level Elections was earlier scheduled for March 3, but the Supreme Court ordered its suspension after a disqualified aspirant in the Eyipeh Electoral Area in the Efutu Constituency, Mr Benjamin Eyi Mensah, a fisherman, sued the EC over the use of inappropriate legislation.
