Kumasi, Sept 1, GNA - Counting of votes in the district level elections took place at all the polling centres in the Kumasi Metropolis after polls closed.

Small crowds began gathering at the centres to observe the votes count, minutes before voting officially ended, and among them were the contestants and their agents.

The atmosphere at places toured by the Ghana News Agency (GNA), including the Adum 'A' Life Departmental Stores Polling Centre, Adum Presbyterian Nursery, Royal Palm and Railways Police Station Centres 'A' and 'B' was calm and relaxed.

This was a sharp contrast of the tension usually seen during the presidential and parliamentary elections.

Turn-out in the elections was generally low, as many qualified voters stayed away.

The election, however, went on with no reported incidence of violence.
