IPP Kicks Against NPP Calls For New Voter Register
24.08.2015 LISTEN

Independent Peoples Party (IPP) has kicked against the call by New Patriotic Party for a new voters register. The NPP few days ago addressed the country with documents doubting credibility of the voters register used in the 2012 elections. The party claimed some foreigners have been registered in the voter register, which the party provided evidence of names and pictures of people in the Togolese voters registration and the same names in Ghana’s register to back the claims.

Even though the Electoral commission is yet to state its official position and has since urge political parties to present to them their opinion, the ruling National Democratic Congress and some individuals have kicked against it with the IPP being the next party to condemn the call

The IPP believes a credible voter register should be requested through auditing existing voter register. The general secretary of IPP, Mr. Kwame Owusu Akyempim-Boadu who addressed a press conference to state their position for a new register, describes the NPP’s call for a new register as an attempt to push for their selfish interest at the expense of the state, a move the IPP says must be seriously rejected.

The party believes calling for for a database of the country’s citizens should be pushed by interest groups to address the challenges with the Ghana’s voter register

Mr. Kwame Owusu Akyempim-Boadu says the NPP is confused hence the call for a new voter register with questionable documents to prove their case.

In a related development, the IPP’s parliamentary aspirant for the Bosomtwi constituency says she optimistic of taken the seat from the incumbent new patriotic party come 2016 parliamentary election.

Linda Amponsah-Fordjour, a graduate of KNUST believes as a member of parliamentary, she will be in a better position to tackle the flaws in the local governance system.
