PNC postpones National Delegates Congress

Accra, Aug 4, GNA - The Peoples National Convention (PNC), has postponed its National Delegates Congress from August 14 -16 to October 9-11, to elect national officers and the flagbearer for election 2016.

The postponement was necessitated by failure of the party to organise all constituency and regional conferences to elect officers, which were mandatory for a national congress.

A party source told the Ghana News Agency in an interview on Tuesday that the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the party had directed all regional executives to complete constituency congresses by mid-August, and Regional Congresses by mid-September, to pave way for the National Delegates Congress.

The PNC source explained that the party's National Executive Committee was monitoring current developments and mop-up strategies, to fast-track the process to pave way for the National Delegates Congress.

The Congress is expected to review the party's Constitution, and strengthen it to deal with the exigencies of current political trends.

GNA investigation indicates that so far, Mr Hassan Abdulai Ayariga, Elections 2012 Presidential Candidate, and Dr Bismark B. Ntim, Elections 2004 Vice Presidential Candidate of the party, are campaigning for the flagbearer position.

The 17 national positions being contested are: National Chairman, three Vice Chairmen, General Secretary, two deputy General Secretaries, National Organiser and his two deputies, National Women Organiser and her two deputies, National Youth Organiser and his two deputies, National Treasurer and his two deputies, and Communications Secretary.
