Korle Klottey election results were cooked; Philip Addison alleges

One of the key contenders for the Korle Klottey New Patriotic Party Parliamentary slot, Phillip Addison says Sunday's vote was a charade, designed to produce Nii Noi Nortey as the party's parliamentary candidate.

He told Joy FM’s Super Morning Show Monday that some of the people who voted on Sunday August 2, 2015 at the party's headquarters were not NPP delegates.

The renowned lawyer who boycotted the elections, said the outcome of the vote predetermined, with the Electoral Commission (EC) neck deep in the scam.

“The Electoral Commission was very much into this thing, people were given double ballots and so on ...they [EC] were in on it. Everything has been cooked", he said.

Even though the lead lawyer for three NPP leaders - Nana Akufo-Addo, Jake Obetsebi-Lamptey and Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia – in the 2013 presidential election petition announced he would not participate in the vote, he polled 22 votes out of the total of 440 valid votes cast last Sunday in an election that was mired in controversy.

His main contender, Nii Noi Nortey, obtained 393 votes winning the polls. A third aspirant, Nii Adjei Tawiah, also boycotted the polls.

Nii Adjei Tawiah could only manage 19 votes. Six ballots were rejected. Close to half of the delegate college did not vote.

The two boycotted the polls due to disagreements over when the elections should be held – the Party's General Secretary, Kwabena Agyepong had pushed for the elections to come off on August 2.

But Phillip Addison and Nii Adjei Tawiah claimed the voting should have been held on August 8.

According to Phillip Addison, he lost because he was not involved in the polls.

“We would have been involved in the 8^th election more than this”, he said.

He insists more than half of the delegates in the Korle Klottey Constituency, some 400 of them, are on his side.

Phillip Addison says he will meet some senior members of the party later today over the outcome of the polls.

Prior to Sunday's election, there were unsuccessful attempts to injunct the primary and also disqualify the eventual winner - Nii Nortey a former constituency chairman of the party in Korle Klottey.

Going into the election, the real estate developer told Joy News’ there was no justification for an election initially billed for June 13 to be postponed.

Meanwhile, the leadership of the NPP in the Greater Accra Region have expressed satisfaction with how the polls were conducted.

Speaking to Joy News, Deputy General Secretary Adam Sabo urged disappointed aspirants to move on.
