Vicky Bright withdraws from Okaikoi South primary; accuses incumbent of forgery
01.08.2015 LISTEN

The former legal advisor to ex-president John Kufuor and an aspiring Member of Parliament for the Okaikoi South Constituency has withdrawn from the New Patriotic Party primary scheduled for Sunday.

Vicky Bright is accusing her contender and incumbent Member of Parliament Ahmed Arthur of fraud.

Similar to the controversies in the Korle Klottey constituency, the primary of which has been scheduled for tomorrow, Bright said Arthur has forged his certificate thought to have come from the Ghana Institute of Journalism.

At a press conference, Saturday, just a day to the primary, Vicky Bright said she cannot be part of a fraudulent process.

She petitioned the party to disqualify the incumbent MP for forging his certificate from GIJ, an action that led to the postponement of the primary in the Okaikoi South election.

But the party's appeals committee threw out the petition and set Sunday for the election.

Vicky Bright has pulled out of the contest, leaving Ahmed Arthur as sole candidate to be acclaimed by the party.
