NDC Talensi Bye-election: It's NDC's B.T Baba vs NPP's Thomas Zoanad

New Patriotic Party (NPP) and National Democratic Congress (NDC) have elected their respective parliamentary candidates for the Talensi Bye-elections expected to come off July 7.

Holding the primaries on the same day, the NPP elected an Nsawam Government hospital worker Thomas Zoanad Awuni while NDC delegates also elected former Deputy Director of the Ghana Prison Service B.T Baba to represent the party.

The why of the bye-election

The Talensi seat held by the NPP, became vacant when former MP, Robert Mosore resigned after his enskinment as Tongo chief.

Former MP, Robert Mosore is now Tongo chief under the name Tongorana Kubilsong Nalebegtan.

NPP

Thomas Zoanad Wuni polled 182 to beat two other challengers. Robert Alibo who works with an NGO got 119 and a businessman William Zoogah obtained 96 votes.

The NPP only won the Talensi seat in 2012 when the MP turned chief snatched the seat from John Tia.

Analysts say the NPP stand a chance if it works with other parties to reinforce its numbers come July 7.

NDC

B.T Baba polled 351 votes to beat four others. His closest challenger Talensi DCE Edward Awoonore obtained 265 votes. Charles Boazor got 53, King James Atore got 5 votes and Rockson Aditiba got 3 votes.

B.T Baba: If you try and don't suceed - try again

It is B.T Baba’s second attempt at the ticket after he lost to John Tia ahead of the 2012 parliamentary elections. John Tia a five time occupant of the seat did not contest the primaries.

Only two parties have held the seat since 1992 with the NDC holding it five times out of six. John Tia, a local legend in Talensi had held that seat on all five ocassions and become a Deputy Majority leader in 2009.
