NDC group demands removal of Kpando MCE over corruption allegations

A pro-NDC pressure group is calling for the immediate removal of the Kpando Municipal Chief Executive, Delali Paulina Adinyirah.

According to 'Youth Watch for Accountable Governance', the MCE is corrupt and incompetent.

General Secretary for the pressure group, Mr. Elvis Atta, in a statement Monday called on President John Mahama to relieve Mrs Adinyirah of her duties on grounds that her office has been marred by fierce criticism from both members of the ruling NDC and opposition parties for gross misconduct and corruption.

The statement alleged that the MCE and her associates recently sold electricity poles meant for the electrification of Konda, a rural community in the Volta Region, and pocket the money.

The statement further revealed that the Kpando MCE has extorted money from residents of Konda with a promise to provide them with power.

They say residents paid between two thousand and one thousand Ghana cedis to the MCE.

One of the alleged victims of the extortion by the MCE include NDC Konda Ward Youth organiser, Stephen Denutsui.

Mr Denutsui said he paid one thousand Ghana cedis to the MCE.

Three other residents also paid between one thousand and two hundred and fifty Ghana cedis to the MCE, the pressure group indicated.

The monies were paid to one Francis Ocloo, who said he collected the monies upon instruction by the MCE.

The MCE has confirmed receiving the monies, however, she maintains that she only demanded the donation to buy food for contractors who were working on Konda electrification project.

Our sources at the Ministry of Power, however, indicated that the MCE's excuse is unacceptable.

The residents of Konda community in the Kpando Municipality became outspoken over the issue after it emerged that the electrification project to their community will be stalled due to the illegal sale of the poles.
