NPP Ohene-Ntow talks only when NPP has internal problems - Afenyo-Markin
MAY 30, 2015 LISTEN

The deafening silence of former General Secretary of NPP Nana Ohene-Ntow as a fine communicator, unless there are internal squabbles, is worryingly not helping the party’s cause, Alexander Afenyo-Markins has observed.

For some unmentioned reasons, the NPP MP claimed, persons like Ohene-Ntow who have what it takes to shape the party’s agenda for 2016 and put it on the right path have rather taken to the backstage.

Such conducts do not help the cause of the party and does not also demonstrate respect for the party’s flagbearer, Nana Akufo-Addo, Mr. Afenyo-Markin said on Joy FM, MultiTV news analysis programme, Newsfile Saturday.

“This man [Ohene-Ntow] is an eloquent communicator, if you see the competence with which he analyses issues, you would expect that this man would be in the forefront in leading the chart, helping the party’s cause.

“My only problem I have with Ohene-Ntow is that I only hear his voice when we have internal issues coming up….party communicators are overstretched when there are people in this party who for whatever reason, they have pulled back…but when there is an internal matter you hear their voices.”

Panelists for the programme were discussing whether a grand scheme exists within the NPP to frustrate the party's ambition in ensuring its flagbearer Nana Akuffo-Addo wins presidential elections in 2016.

The scheme branded Agenda 2020 has been cited for the latest round of internal party crisis. Although Afenyo Markins dismissed the existence of such a scheme, he believes divergent views and egos within the party have not been managed well enough.

Commenting on the trial of Gregory Afoko, a suspect in the fatal acid attack on the chairman of NPP Upper East Adams Mahama last week, Mr. Afenyo-Markin who is also a lawyer believes two categorical statements in the police charge sheet, that the late chairman organized thugs to attack Messrs. Afoko and Kwabena Agyepong, and claims that the two were campaigning against Akufo-Addo - are "not right".

A nationwide uproar ensued following the death of Mr. Mahama with a loud call for the resignation of Mr. Paul Afoko and Kwabena Agyepong as the national Chairman and General Secretary respectively of the party.

However, NPP’s presidential aspirant Nana Addo Dankqah Akufo-Addo called for a cease fire yesterday and charged the rank and file of the party to unite for victory 2016.

Weighing in on, Afenyo-Markin charged NPP supporters to make Akufo-Addo’s peace call bring finality to “all pettiness” ongoing in the party.

He also challenged all to adjust to divergent views and some level of confrontations as politicians.
