Ndc Uk Ireland Chapter Condemns The Murder Of Adams Mahama
24.05.2015 LISTEN

The NDC UK & Ireland Chapter has found it difficult to come to terms with the sudden and gruesome death of Mr Adams Mahama, the Chairman of NPP Upper East Region.

Our sincerest condolences to the family, friends and NPP party as a whole.

We condemn this act of violence and call on the security agencies to bring the perpetrators to book. We also appeal to the residents of Upper East and family members to remain calm and support the police carry out their investigations.

The NDC UK & Ireland Chapter is appealing to all Ghanaians to work hard to sustain the peace we are enjoying under the leadership of President Mahama and the government.

His Excellency and his government deserve to be commended for investing hugely in the security sector.

Logistics such as bullet proof vests, riot control gear and two modern mobile clinic vans have been procured for the police. The Police Service also now boasts of an ultra-modern forensic laboratory equipped with the appropriate facilities and vehicles for crime prevention.

Aside all these, the number of police personnel has increased from 23,204 in 2012 to about 30,365 resulting in a current Police-Population Ratio of 1:784 as against 1:1,100 in 2010. This has also brought us closer to the United Nations’ benchmark of 1:500 (PPR)

This increment has enabled the Police Service to expand the Police Visibility and Accessibility Programme to all regional capitals and selected urban areas leading to a reduction in major crimes. This has ensured that many of the hardened criminals were arrested and successfully prosecuted.

1,424 vehicles have also been procured since 2012 against 547 procured between 2001-2008.

The Patrol Department and Marine Police Unit established by Ghana Police Service has further strengthened our internal security in Ghana, hence the peace we are enjoying.

We are particularly concerned about the internal wrangling in the NPP which has serious national security threats. We are therefore calling on the leader of the NPP to act swiftly and decisively to curb this violent behaviour that contradicts the democratic principles of the party.

The peace and security of our dear nation is under threat because of lack of leadership in the NPP.

Violence and lawlessness at NPP party headquarters, tribal pronouncements at party meetings and rallies which have potential security threat to our country should be addressed by the leadership of the party.

We are urging Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo as leader of the NPP to provide a fair and firm leadership to hos party so that Ghanaians can benefit from a credible and vibrant opposition.
